EPISODE SHOW NOTES:

About Hannah

Hannah is a Houston native turned Utah photographer. She studied Public Health at Utah Valley University and went on to work in the Mental Health and Social Work field until she stumbled onto her passion for video and photography.

Fun fact – when she first started, just three short years ago, she’d set out to focus on videography. On the side, she’d occasionally take photos of friends and family just for fun. They gave her the praise and encouragement she needed to hear to pursue it professionally, and now, she primarily focuses on photographing portraits, couples, and elopements in and around Utah.

Be sure to check out her incredible photography on IG, and don’t miss her Reels – some of which have even gone viral and gotten QUITE controversial, but more on that in the episode!

Hannah’s Key Tips for Success

  • Collaborating with other photographers and providing opportunities for each other can help you all grow and evolve as photographers

“It’s important to have that community over competition mindset” – Hannah

  • Stay in constant communication with your clients from the moment they book all the way through event day. Going MIA on someone who’s invested in you is never ok.
  • Scheduling a Facetime call with potential clients is a great way to feel out if you’re going to vibe and be a good match.
  • Investing in a pricing guide template can really help elevate your branding and make you look more professional, and put together
  • Niching down makes your life easier. Focus on what you’re most passionate about so that you can deepen your craft instead of spreading yourself too thin.
  • Reels can be a great way to grow your following when you’re consistent with it and stay authentic to yourself.
  • Use hashtags, even on your Reels! Experiment with placing them in the captions or the comments. And use hashtags related to the geographical areas you shoot and are willing to travel to.

Hannah’s Tips for Photographers Just Starting Out

  • When you’re first starting with wedding photography, shadowing other photographers is a great way to get a feel for the flow without the burden of pressure.
  • YouTube is a great resource for learning and understanding photography, especially if you’re going through the process of teaching yourself.
  • When you’re just starting as a photographer, shoot anything and everything. Ask friends and family to model for you and once you get a feel for what you like most, begin to niche down.
  • If you like a photographer’s style and they sell presets, invest in them so you can practice editing in that style, too!
